Police: Teens arrested after gun taken to Reynolds Co. school

REYNOLDS COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Two teens were arrested Thursday after police say a gun was taken to a school in Reynolds County.

According to school Superintendent Mike Redlich, the campus of Southern Reynolds County R-II was locked down Thursday afternoon from about noon to 2 p.m.

Ellington police say they received a tip about a gun on campus on Tuesday.

Officers from Ellington PD responded to the school to investigate, Thursday

Police say they were called for a drug sweep after a report came in about illegal substances in the building. No drugs were found.

Teachers were instructed to lock their doors and continue with class while drug dogs were brought in to investigate.

Law enforcement officials searched lockers at the school, but did not find any weapons on campus.

Officials also interviewed students, including one who saw the weapon on Tuesday.

Officials arrested two students they say had a gun while on campus that day.

Law enforcement officials searched a home described by one of the students and found a gun, a Ruger .380, the gun the two students allegedly had on campus Tuesday.

The firearm was allegedly stolen by a third student from his parents, who brought it to school to give to the two who were arrested.

Police say the student who originally stole the gun was arrested Wednesday night in another incident by the Reynolds Co. Sheriff.

All three students were taken to the juvenile center in Reynolds Co.

Parents and guardians were notified by the school at the time of the investigation, and no one was injured.

Charges are pending against the two arrested, including possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm on a school campus.

We will have more on this story as it becomes available.
