Kingsway Drive construction begins in Cape Girardeau - KFVS12 News & Weather Cape Girardeau, Carbondale, Poplar Bluff

Kingsway Drive construction begins in Cape Girardeau

This week in Cape Girardeau construction of new sidewalks will begin on the east side of Kingsway Drive.

Construction will start at Janet Drive and proceed north to Kurre Lane.

Kingsway will remain open to traffic.

Drivers should expect to encounter delays through the work area. Drivers are urged to avoid using this area of Kingsway if possible.

The construction is expected to take approximately four months for Nip Kelley Equipment Company to complete, subject to weather delays.

Because the project is within the Alma Schrader Elementary School boundaries it is federally funded through the Safe Routes to School program.

Drivers should also expect more construction int he coming weeks for sidewalks on the west side of Kingsway south from Janet Drive to the Food Giant driveway.

The second project will be funded by Transportation Trust Fund 4, a sales tax approved by voters in 2010.

The two sections of sidewalks will connect with a new crosswalk at Janet Drive.
