KSP announces funeral procession route for Tpr. Ponder

KENTUCKY (KFVS) -

Kentucky State Police announced the funeral procession route for Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder on Friday, Sept. 18 at 12 p.m.

The motorcade procession will leave Severns Valley Baptist Church, located at 1100 Ring Rd. in Elizabethtown, Ky.; it will turn left on Patriot Pkwy. (KY 361); take an immediate left onto Ring Rd. (KY 3005); follow Ring Rd. to Dixie Highway (US 31-W); proceed north on US 31-W through Elizabethtown and Radcliff; end at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, located at 2501 N. Dixie Blvd. in Ft. Knox, Ky.

KSP encourages the public to watch the motorcade procession and celebrate the life and service of Trooper Ponder.

Dispatchers and troopers from several posts across the state have volunteered, some on their nights off, to cover Post 1 so that those who knew Trooper Ponder, or would like to pay their respects, can do so.

Trooper Ponder was shot and killed on Sunday night after conducting a traffic stop that led to a police chase.

The suspect, Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks, 25, was found in a wooded area off of I-24 on Monday morning. He was shot by a special response team after police say he refused verbal commands to lower his weapon. He later died at an area hospital.
