Train hits SUV at railroad crossing in Galatia, IL

GALATIA, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police responded to a crash in Galatia, Illinois involving an SUV and a train on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 15.

According to the preliminary police investigation, Tina M. Sloan, 58, of Galatia, was driving a 2006 Dodge Durango northbound on South Main Cross Street at Railway Street when she failed to yield to a southeastbound train at the railroad crossing on South Main Cross Street.

Police say the 1997 CWA44AC train engine, operated by 55-year-old Donald F. Cain, of Neoga, Ill., hit the front driver's side of the Durango.

Sloan was taken from the scene by ambulance to an area hospital.

Neither Cain, nor 49-year-old Edward L. Flanigan, of Ashley, Ill., who was the train conductor, were injured.

According to police, Sloan was cited for disobeying a railroad signal.
