Ribbon cutting for new facility at Chester Elementary School

RANDOLPH COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Chester Elementary students returned to school this week to a brand new gymnasium.

Chester School District leaders along with community members celebrated the occasion with a ribbon cutting.

Jerry Costello II, US Representative for Illinois’s 12th congressional district, gave speech during the ceremony held on Monday.

“The gymnasium is a showpiece for the community, everyone should be very proud of this addition," said Michael Baysinger, managing partner of Baysinger Architects, the architecture firm in charge of the project.

The new addition costs just over $6 million and it should replace its indoor facility that was condemned.

Once completed, the 17,670 square foot facility will add a kitchen and cafeteria, new lobby, renovated administration offices, locker rooms and a new gym to the school.

“The gym renovation is exciting! It’s been a long but fulfilling journey, to see the hard work of many come together for the current and future students of Chester,” school Superintendent Tim Lochhead said.
