Community comes together after trooper shot in Lyon County, KY

When tragedy strikes the Heartland, we frequently hear about stories about people stepping up to help.

So it was no surprise when a business helped travelers who were stuck when Interstate 24 was shut down for hours while the shooting investigation continued.

A lot of traffic was backed up around We B’ Smokin’ BBQ, a barbecue restaurant located right off exit 45 on Interstate 24.

It’s an area that had major delays, because exits 45 through 54 were blocked off earlier on the interstate, causing traffic to back up at least 5 miles.

One of the owners of a nearby restaurant in Lyon County, We B’ Smokin’ BBQ, Megan Riley said it’s a sad situation for the entire Lyon County community.

“You wouldn’t think it would happen in your community until it actually does,” Riley said. “And then it just becomes reality of what’s really going on. Not knowing the circumstances surrounding the situation, it’s still sad for everybody. There’s two lives lost for absolutely no reason at all.”

Riley said it’s news that not only impacts law enforcement, but employees of this restaurant and the Lyon County community.

“Lyon County is such a lovely community for this to happen in Lyon County is really detrimental to the community – and we are the type of community that will pull together and come through,” Riley said.
