Carbondale PD arrest man after altercation, charge him with battery

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Police in Carbondale have arrested and charged a man with battery after a fight broke out when he threw a dog into the street.

On Saturday at about 1:37 a.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue to a report of people fighting. 

During the investigation, officers learned that an argument ensued between three acquaintances.

During the argument, Donnell Hopkins reportedly grabbed the victim’s dog and threw it onto South Illinois Avenue, which resulted in a fight between the two.

During the fight, the victim’s dog bit Hopkins multiple times.

Hopkins was treated at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for non-life threatening injuries. 

He was arrested and charged with battery. 

He was released on a notice to appear in City court. 

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
