Firefighters participate in 9/11 memorial stair climb

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Jackson Fire Rescue is remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001 at the 2nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb put on by the department. 

For 3 hours and 43 minutes on Friday, firefighters are climbing a stair step machine as a tribute to the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice to help others retreat to safety.
 
Each step, reflects the over 2,000 steps within the 110 stories of each Twin Tower.

Many are wearing 50 pound weight vests, which equals the weight of gear and equipment.  

The goal is to continuously climb for 3 hours and 43 minutes symbolizing the number of firefighters lost in 9-11 while helping other retreat to safety.

The event kicked off at 6 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson.
