MURRAY, KY (KFVS) -

A man accused of shooting and killing an 18-year-old Wednesday night in Murray now faces a murder charge.

Tearon Sherrill, 21, is accused in the death Jamel Al Shubili.

Sherrill was previously charged with manslaughter, but that charge was amended to murder on Sept. 11, according to Calloway County Attorney Bryan Ernstberger.

Sherrill is also charged with tampering with physical evidence.

Murray police say the report of a shooting on Stadium View Drive came in at about 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.

When police arrived on scene, they found Al Shubili bleeding in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Several people in the area were screaming and saying they did not know who shot Al Shubili.

Officers noticed a gun on the couch in the living room.

When officers, cleared the scene they saw Sherrill coming down the stairs of the home and when he saw them, he ran back upstairs, according to the affidavit.

That's when officers noticed the gun was no longer on the couch.

They found the gun in a duffle bag in the closet of a bedroom.

Blood was found in several areas in the house.

Several witnesses told police Sherrill had been rapping with a gun and clicking the hammer back and forth with music. The gun went off and several witnesses said they saw Sherrill grabbing Jamel, according to court documents.

Sherrill's preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 18 in Calloway County.

Al Shubili recently graduated from Mayfield High School. He was the 2015 class president at Mayfield High School. This is the second student death at the school in less than a year.
