6 additional southeast MO counties eligible for disaster loans

(KFVS) -

Farmers in six more southeast Missouri counties are now eligible to apply for physical and/or production loss loan assistance following an additional natural disaster designation from the United States Department of Agriculture.

Those counties include Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, Scott and Stoddard.

On August 7, President Obama approved Gov. Jay Nixon’s request for a major disaster declaration. This allows local governments and eligible nonprofit agencies to seek assistance for response and recovery expenses associated with the severe weather and flooding.

Mississippi and New Madrid counties were previously included in a USDA disaster designation because of losses due to flooding since June 1. This new designation expands the disaster period to include losses back to May 15.

The disaster designation allows eligible farmers to be considered for assistance from the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), including FSA emergency loans.

Farmers can contact their local FSA office for more information.
