EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -

An East Prairie man was arrested earlier this week after he allegedly trespassed on public housing property.

According to the Mississippi County Sheriff, the investigation began late Tuesday night when officials received information that Steven Earl Carter, 58, was living in a public housing unit for elderly tenants.

Due to his status as a convicted felon, Carter is not allowed to live in or visit public housing property.

During the investigation, deputies learned Carter was regularly visiting a public housing unit designated for elderly tenants, despite having been banned from the property.

Officials conducted surveillance on the units until Carter arrived, and then made contact with the tenants to find Carter inside the apartment.

Carter was arrested and taken the Mississippi County Detention Center.

He is charged with two counts of trespass.

Carter was jailed in the Mississippi County Detention Center with bond set at $500.
