EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -

An East Prairie woman has been arrested and charged with alcohol-related crimes after an investigation in Mississippi County.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began last week into a sexual assault at a party attended by more than twenty underage teenagers.

During the investigation, officials interviewed several witnesses, who led them to believe Melinda Dianne Riggins, 43, had bought alcohol for several minors and left them unsupervised overnight.

According to the probable cause statement, Riggins purchased alcohol from an East Prairie liquor store on the night of August 29, after she was given a list of alcohol to buy, with money collected by the minors.

She then had her daughter drive her to the back of a home at 306 Grand St., where she took the alcohol inside where a party was occurring.

According to the statement, two of the intoxicated minors were later exposed to sexual misconduct as a result of Riggins’ actions.

Officials found Riggins late Friday night at a home in East Prairie, where she was arrested and taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

Riggins is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and supplying alcohol to a minor.

She was released from custody on Saturday after posting a $1,500 surety bond.
