CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A stolen gun is off the streets after a short chase in Charleston.

According to Chief Robert Hearnes, someone called police and said there was a man with a gun near the basketball courts at Lincoln Park.

When officers tried to stop the man, Hearnes said he ran away.

That man, identified as 25-year-old Jermare Farmer of Charleston, was arrested a short time later.

Hearnes said officers searched the area and found a loaded firearm hidden in a trashcan.

That gun was reported stolen to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department in July.

Farmer faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

He’s being held in the Mississippi County Jail on $50,000 cash or surety bond.
