PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

The Paducah, Kentucky Police Department demonstrated how its officers train using a digital interactive firearms training system Tuesday, September 8.

Members of the Paducah Police Chief Brandon Barnhill's Community Discussion Panel watched and participated the demonstration.

The MILO Range use of force simulator projects scenario's on to a life size screen. The goal is to put officers in situations that look and feel real to better prepare them for real-life use of force situations.

Justin Hill, a success Counselor with Western Kentucky Community College and a member of the community discussion panel took part in the virtual scenario. He said it changed how he perceives officers.

"I'm glad I've got to see what they go through," Hill said.

MILO offers nearly 500 scenarios that range from investigating a suspicious character, domestic violence, or active shooter situations. Officers in front of the screen are asked to respond as they would in real life.

Detective Ryan Conn with the Paducah Police Department said police are more and more put in the spotlight.

“We make decisions all day everyday and maybe one perspective of a camera or just happens to be highlighted in the media and it makes the whole game look bad," Conn said.

Conn said he hopes programs like this will help the public better understand what law enforcement officers do every day.

The system offers electronically modified police equipment such as a firearm, stun gun, or pepper spray that allows users to interact with the screen and each scenario.

If you're interested in taking part in the simulation, contact Detective Conn.
