Labor Day weekend travelers hit Rend Lake

REND LAKE, IL (KFVS) -

It’s Labor Day weekend and lots of folks are out at Rend Lake this weekend to celebrate.

Executive Director of the Rend Lake Tourism Council Rick Linton said the weather is just right for Labor Day weekend and is a big change from the rainy summer that’s brought down the number of visitors to the lake this year.

“It’s probably going to be pretty busy near Rend Lake Marina and Rend Lake Resort,” Linton said.

Around 3.5 million people visit Rend Lake per year, according to Linton. He said this weekend folks will be cooking out and boating near party cove, the campgrounds, or along it’s 21 miles of paved bicycle paths.

“Rain has really hurt us a lot this year,” Linton said.

Although, he said there has been  a slight increase in motel stays this year, Linton said.

The lake is host several events each year. A new Mardi Gras type event called the Rend Lake Light’s Fantastic will be held on September 19.
