CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The city of Cape Girardeau wants to hear your scariest scream.

For the second year in a row, the Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Department is holding open auditions for its annual Haunted Hall of Horror.

Recreation Supervisor Heather Davis said the auditions are the first step in planning the frightening experience.

"Before we get started we want to see what we're working with," Davis said.

Though the department is looking for anyone who enjoys serving up a good scare, Davis said it's a good opportunity for high school and college students interested in the performing arts.

"By having people who are used to being on stage... I think some of our acting was better [last year] than in previous years," Davis said. "In our case it's not when the lights come on; it's when the lights go out."

The ghouls, ghosts and goblins who make it to the Haunted Hall will be paid contractors, earning $45 per performance, Davis said.

Auditions will be held at the A.C. Brase Arena Building on Wednesday, September 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, September 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The tryouts are open to anyone 16 and older and those auditioning are required to bring a government issued photo ID.

To be considered for the job, the Haunted Hall hopefuls will also have to be available to work October 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 & 31 starting at 6 p.m.
