BERNIE, MO (KFVS) -

Some people in Bernie gathered to pray for Kim Davis on Friday, September 4 at 5 p.m. at the first pavilion of Bernie Park in Bernie, MO.

“We have rights as Christians. We must come together,” Steve Fitzpatrick, pastor of Bernie General Baptist Church and the event's organizer, said on his Facebook page. “We have rights too. Support her in her right in what she believes in. She doesn’t hate. She just doesn’t agree with going against her belief in God.”

Fitzpatrick says the prayer meeting is about love and support for Davis.

"[It's time to] speak out and be a voice for the Lord. He sure didn't hold back for us. She's taken that stand and she was arrested for it," Fitzpatrick said.

Pastor Gary Long of Beechwell Baptist Church drove about 60 miles to attend the prayer meeting. He said he's standing up for what he thinks is right.

"Kim Davis' rights have been walked on. She has a right to worship God as she sees fit. People bled and died for that. God bless her. She's standing up and it's time other Christians stood up too," Long said.

Davis is the Rowan County, KY clerk who went to jail for repeatedly refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
