Numbers up this year at Du Quoin State Fair

The State Fair Manager, Patrick Buchen said numbers have shown an increase since last year at the Du Quoin State Fair.

The numbers are currently based on the number of cars that have come to the fair.

"We are very fortunate. We've been up every day in our cars parked but one," Buchen said. "We were up eight percent on Friday, up 30 percent on Saturday, up 90 percent on Sunday, we were off 20 percent on Monday, back up seven to eight percent yesterday and about 30 percent on Wednesday."

Because the numbers are based on car oriented admission versus a walk-through admission, Buchen said numbers can only be based on the number of cars parked at this time.

"A lot of the people that walk in the grounds free that we just don't know for sure yet how our formula is going to workout and tabulate those people," Buchen said. "We can figure out the number in a car by just sampling and doing some surveying, but it still doesn't count the amount of people we have walking through the various gates we have."

But Buchen said it's a good feeling to see the increase in the amounts of cars parked compared to last year.

"It feels good," Buchen said. "More importantly than that, it's the attitudes of the attendees when they walk outside the gate. Did they have a good experience? Did they see some entertaining and enlightening displays? And that's what's important, the attitudes of the attendees once they leave."

According to Buchen, Sunday showed the biggest increase, with 90 percent more parked cars than last year.

He said the Sunday evening concert helped bring in quite a bit of revenue.
