Child ID wristbands offered at Du Quoin State Fair

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

With all the food, and rides and people coming to the Du Quoin State Fair it's easy to misplace something or get lost.

For the past several years, the Illinois State Police have been handing out child ID wristbands at the Du Quoin State Fair

Children will have their parents or guardian's contact information on the wrist band.

If children get lost or separated from their family, they can go find a state police officer and that officer will be able to call the number and get the child to the right person.

It's an idea one babysitter said is a great idea.

"I think that anybody can get side tracked," babysitter Grace Marks said. "I mean if you're watching one kid another one can see something, and go towards it and then next thing you know, you turn around and where are they at? So I think it's good that they'll have somewhere to go in case they do get separated."

Officers say there is no cost for the wrist bands, it is a free program.

The bright yellow wristbands are located at the Illinois State Police Safety Education Tent by the main pedestrian gate.
