Man seriously injured after being thrown from motorcycle, hit by truck

A motorcycle driver was seriously injured on Thursday morning, Sept. 3 after deputies say his tire separated from the rim, throwing him in front of an oncoming truck.

According to McCracken County deputies, at about 8:57 a.m., they responded to the motorcycle crash just west of the intersection at U.S. 62/Blandville Road and McCracken Boulevard.

Deputies say Joey Gill, 54, of Wickliffe, was driving a red 2009 Kawasaki KLR650 eastbound on Blandville Road, just west of McCracken Blvd., when his front tire failed and separated from the rim.

This caused Gill to lose control of the motorcycle. Deputies say he was thrown into the westbound lane and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Deputies say the other vehicle, traveling westbound, was a black 2011 Ford F-150 driven by 42-year-old George Petty of Paducah. They say Petty did not have time to react and hit Gill as he was thrown from the motorcycle.

Gill was treated at the scene for serious injuries and then taken to an area hospital. He was then airlifted to an Evansville, Ind. hospital.

Gill is the chief engineer at WPSD.

Petty was not injured in the crash.

Deputies say Blandville Rd., just west of McCracken Blvd., was closed for about an hour and 30 minutes for the investigation and clean-up of the crash.
