Woman accused of lying about stolen medications, selling them

SYMSONIA, KY (KFVS) -

A Symsonia, Kentucky woman is accused of lying about stole prescription medication and actually selling the pain killers.

Sherry Lovelace, 59, was arrested on an indictment charging her with 14 counts of second degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

According to Paducah police, Lovelace reported on July 23 that she went into a restaurant to use the restroom and left her purse in the car with a friend. She said when the two parted a short time later, she found bottles of Hydrocodone and Diazepam were missing from her purse.

Police say the investigation revealed that the medication theft may have been part of a drug deal gone wrong.

They say Lovelace eventually admitted that she had agreed to trade 10 Hydrocodone tablets for her friend's food stamp card, which was worth $140.

As the investigation continued, police say they identified more than a dozen occasions on which Lovelace sold her medication to others.

The investigation was presented to a McCracken County grand jury, which returned an indictment charging Lovelace with 14 counts of second degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Lovelace was arrested on Tuesday morning, Sept. 1 and booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.
