Cape Girardeau PD on the look-out for impaired drivers

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Southeast Missouri DWI Task Force will be working with the Cape Girardeau Police Department as they crack down on drunk driving.

Law enforcement officers throughout Missouri plan to take part in the Statewide DWI Enforcement Campaign.

Drivers should be aware that there will be a sobriety checkpoint during the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

The campaign period started August 21 and runs to September 7.

"We want to remind everyone that getting behind the wheel drunk is a terrible idea," Cape Girardeau Police Chief Wes Blair said. "Unfortunately, not only does drinking impair your ability to operate a vehicle safely, it also impairs your judgment and good sense about whether you can, or should drive. If you have any doubt about your sobriety, do not get behind the wheel. If you choose to drive impaired, you will be arrested. No warnings. No excuses. Driving drunk is simply not worth the risk so don't take the chance."
