MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

This year the Apple Festival in Murphysboro is doing something a little different so everyone can enjoy the parade. One section of the route will be dedicated to people that have a disability.

Mayor Will Stephens said last year that someone requested that an area be made available just for those that are disabled so they can see the parade better on Walnut Street.

Regions Bank will let a portion of their parking lot be reserved for handicapped parking.

The area reserved for viewing the parade will be the area in front of the Murphysboro Events Center.

Crews will place signs out alerting people to not place any lawn chairs in the reserved space.

The Apple Festival is scheduled from September 16-19. The grand parade is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19.

People are so excited for the parade that chairs have been set up two weeks in advance along the parade route.
