IL Rte. 14 reopened after deadly crash in Franklin County, IL

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Illinois Route 14 between Buckner and West City has reopened after a deadly crash on Monday night, Aug. 31.

According to Illinois State Police, Kristina L. Johnson, 37, of Whittington, Ill., was driving a Dodge Journey eastbound on Illinois Route 14 near Water Street behind Irene K. Biggerstaff, 51, of McLeansboro, Ill., in a Kia Optima.

Police say William M. Barger, 34, of Christopher, Ill., was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound.

They say the Dodge Journey entered into the westbound lane to pass the Kia. While beside it, police say the motorcycle hit the front of the Dodge. They say the Dodge then sideswiped the Kia.

Biggerstaff and her passenger, Kara L. Biggerstaff, 18, were uninjured.

Johnson was uninjured, but her passenger, 23-year-old Chelsea A. Hayden, had minor injuries. Police say Johnson was cited for improper overtaking.

Barger died from his injuries.

According to police, the Dodge and motorcycle had to be towed from the scene. Illinois Route 14 was closed for about 4 hours for crash investigation and clean up.
