MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A man from Benton, Ky is behind bars after crashing his car with his 3-year-old son in tow.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s department, 37-year-old Travis Greer was driving east on Benton Road when he drove over a hill crest and into a curve. He lost control and hit a culvert.

The car left the road and landed in a southbound direction halfway on Berger Road and halfway in a parking lot.

Witnesses told the responding deputies that they watched Greer leave his car with his injured son inside and walk across the street to throw a bag in the tall grass.

Deputies later found that bag with a bottle of alcohol inside.

During the investigation, deputies determined that Greer had not secured his child in a car seat properly. Investigators said that when the crash happened, the boy flew out of his seat and hit his head on the front windshield. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment for his head injuries.

Greer faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (aggravated circumstances, 2nd offense), tampering with physical evidence, wanton endangerment 1st degree, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance, criminal mischief 1st degree, assault 1st degree, and failure to use child restraint device in vehicle.
