Carbondale police issue 27 citations at 'Solar Bear' party

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Carbondale Police Department issued 27 citations on Saturday, Aug. 29 during a "Solar Bear" party at an apartment complex.

Police say they were monitoring the activities around the party at the apartments in the 1100 block of East Grand Avenue when the crowd began growing at around 12 p.m. They say it had mostly dispersed at around 5 p.m., with the number of people estimated to be about 1,000 at the height of the event.

According to police, 27 citations were issued, of which 19 were for underage possession or consumption of alcohol, three for public possession of alcohol, one for public urination, three for resisting a peace officer and one for obstructing identification.

During one arrest, police say the individual was resisting, and beer cans and glass bottles of alcohol were thrown at the officers from members of the crowd who had surrounded the arrest.

In response, police say pepper spray was used to force the crowd to disperse from the area surrounding the arrest so that the person being arrested could be safely removed from the area.

They say the officers and the suspect arrested were not injured, and there were no reports from any bystanders injured during the course of the incident.
