BOLLINGER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A Butler County man is in police custody following a deadly shooting and stabbing in Bollinger County.

The Bollinger County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting and stabbing two to three miles north of Marble Hill on Hwy. 51 just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 28 after a neighbor heard gunshots.

The neighbor found a man with a knife in him.

Bollinger County Sheriff Darin Shell says Joshua Sharar, 31, and Vickie Williams, 31, were both shot and stabbed multiple times.

Sharar died at the hospital early Saturday morning. Williams was listed in critical condition.

The suspect, William Anthony Pickard, 32, of Poplar Bluff is charged with first degree murder, first degree assault, and armed criminal action.

Pickard told police he had been dating Williams since he was released from prison in July. He also said he had moved in with Williams and Sharar. As the romance began to dwindle, Pickard told police he began to have thoughts about killing Williams.

Pickard said he turned off the lights to the home on Aug. 28 to make it look like he was asleep when Williams and Sharar returned home from visiting a relative.

When they got home, Pickard said he confronted them with a pistol. He said he shot both Williams and Sharar several times and stabbed them several times with a serrated knife.

He also took their phones so they could not call for help, according to the probable cause statement. He said he took money from Sharar's wallet and kicked him in the face.

That's when he allegedly took Sharar's truck and started driving toward Poplar Bluff.

A police officer spotted the truck in Puxico. A vehicle chase began on Missouri 51 southbound to Route B in Butler County.

After the suspect ran over spike strips on Route AA and ran from the truck.

Pickard was arrested around 11 p.m. following a short foot chase into a drainage ditch.

He was taken to the Butler County Jail. His bond has been set at $750,000.
