SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Sikeston officials joined together with Cotton Ridge Development on Friday to officially break ground on the Malco Theatre, an 8-cinema movie theater.

“Today, in breaking ground on the Malco Theatre, we are opening a new chapter of progress,” Mike Bohannon of Cotton Ridge said.

“We are coming together to create jobs and revitalize our economy, and we are the laying the foundation for new opportunities for businesses to grow in the Bootheel. The Malco theatre is the first of many businesses to locate in Cotton Ridge. We look forward to announcing others over the coming months.”

Cotton Ridge is a land development area in Sikeston located off Highway 60, west of Walmart near Hennings Drive and Lawrence Street.

Cotton Ridge will also include a variety of businesses such as the Malco Theatre, restaurants, retail shops, hotels and more.

“Malco is very excited about bringing its new, state-of-the-art cinema design to Sikeston,” said Jimmy Tashie, Executive Vice President of Malco Theatres.

“The cinema will be a place the entire community can take pride in and enjoy for years to come. Cotton Ridge is the perfect location for this new venture and we love the city of Sikeston and know people from all over the region will really have a great time in this new theatre.”

The new Malco Theatre anticipates opening in Spring of 2016.
