DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

The Du Quoin State Fair kicks off Friday, Aug. 28.

Friday is KFVS12 day at the fair.

About 330,000 people showed up for the week-long event in 2014, which was down from the previous year due to what officials called horrific hot temperatures.

The assistant manager says while numbers are a concern this year, he is sure that the fair has everything it needs to be successful.

"Our job is to put up the best product we can, to put out the best fair that we can and that fair is not for us – it's for the citizens. And that's what we've done and that's what we'll continue to do," said Norm Hill, assistant fair director.

Some of the entertainment at the fair includes an interactive farm exhibit.

Kids learn how our food goes from farm to plate, in a fun and interactive exhibit and experience cows, swine, and poultry firsthand at the Helping Hands exhibit.

The theme of the 2015 Du Quoin State Fair is “Growing Illinois” and this exhibit is a teaching project for families and little kids.

Mike Knocks says the “Nocks” have been thrilling audiences world-wide for years.

There are also opportunities to milk actual cows at the fair. Dairy farmers milk their cows twice a day, 365 days a year.
