CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Cape Girardeau, Missouri artist is putting a colorful twist on raising money for charity and you can be a part of it.

It all started with an idea from Aaron Horrell, the owner of Painted Wren Art Gallery in Cape Girardeau.

"Paint just a little bit, one dollar, one minute."

The long time artist, allows people, for a small donation, to add their own creative touch on a large canvas. It's called Paint for a Cause.

"Well, to help people that's the main thing," Horrell said.

Horrell will donate all the money collected to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

"It's something that I can do with an art gallery that I think is beyond the common function,” Horrell said. “This is just another aspect of thinking outside the painting."

Nearly 300 people have already left their mark on the piece and Horrell hopes to see that grow.

"It may seem like nothing but when you put all these people, all their work together," Horrell said. “It really is beyond what one of us can do."

This is Horrell’s second charitable canvas. The first ran in spring and benefited the Safe House for Women. He said he plans to begin another collaborative piece in fall going towards the Watkins Wildlife Rehab.

Much of the material needed for the project is donated by private contributors.
