Rend Lake College offers 2 back-to-school courses for parents, students

INA, IL (KFVS) -

Rend Lake College is offering two courses designed to help students get ready for the new school year.  

First, parents with students in kindergarten through 12th grades can learn about the new Common Core standards and PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) test with Rend Lake College's Common Core and PARCC for Parents class.

The first meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 at Hamilton County Senior High School, Room 194 in McLeansboro.  

The second meets from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 in the library at Benton Consolidated High School.

The third meeting will take place 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 in the Academic Building, Room 215 on the Ina campus.  

Laptops and tablets are encouraged for these sessions. The fee is $10 for the session.

RLC is offering ACT Prep courses for high school juniors and seniors to help them prepare for the ACT test. 

Students will be required to purchase "Barron's ACT 17th Edition" textbook, which is available at the first session for $20.27.  

ACT Prep will meet from 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturdays from Sept. 12 through Oct. 17 that the RLC MarketPlace Room 203 in Mt. Vernon. 

The class fee is $89.
