Illinois Ok's first marijuana dispensary license to Marion, IL business

MARION, IL (KFVS) -

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation approved the first medical marijuana dispensary license on Tuesday.

Marion, Ill. based Harbory became the first dispensary to register in the state but won't begin selling strait away.

Founder Cameron Lehman said there are currently no cultivators with a finished product -- leaving medical marijuana patients waiting a while longer to receive treatment.

Lehman said construction on Harbory's storefront located along IL Route 13 next to the Williamson County Airport will take a while longer. Workers are installing carpet, painting walls, working on lights, and adding furniture.

Lehman said Harbory should be fully operational for patients by mid to late October. The business will employ 10 to 12 workers from the Southern Illinois region.

There is one licensed medical marijuana cultivator in Southern Illinois based in Anna. Wellness Group Pharms is currently building it's growing facility according to company representative Paul Montes. The facility should be completed by October and the first medical marijuana harvest ready by early 2016.
