Man sentenced to 20 years for child molestation

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for child molestation.

Brendon Max was sentenced on Aug. 24 after he was convicted by a jury of two counts of child molestation in the first degree. Specifically, the judge ordered him to serve 10 years on each count to run consecutive to each other.

On June 26, Max was found guilty by a jury for two counts of child molestation in the first degree for sexually molesting a girl who was six years old at the time. This case was tried by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Julie Hunter at the Jackson Courthouse in Cape Girardeau County, Mo.

This case was investigated by the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Beacon Health Clinic. Detective Shawn Davis was the lead investigator on the case.

The victim initially reported the abuse to a family member, who then reported it to police.

At trial, Hunter presented the testimony of the victim, the victim's biological parents, Detective Davis and Forensic Interviewer Jeffrey Schmitt.

The victim testified that the abuse happened several times over a period of one year.
