Murphysboro man sentenced to prison for possession of cannabis

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A Murphysboro man was sentenced to four years in prison for unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver.

Deborez L. Taylor, 30, of Murphysboro was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for the unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver after pleading guilty in a Jackson County Circuit Court on August 6.

On October 15, 2014, police officers and agents of the Illinois Department of Corrections Parole division were conducting parole compliance checks upon various individuals.

They went to Taylor’s home in Murphysboro and found approximately 16 pounds of cannabis packaged for sale. Taylor admitted that the cannabis was his, according to Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr.

Taylor was sentenced to serve four years in the Department of Corrections followed by a period of two years of mandatory supervised release.
