CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Three Cape Girardeau teens have been arrested in connection with a report of shots fired in Sikeston, Missouri.

Ralph Holmes, 19, of Cape Girardeau, was charged with attempting to assault a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and resisting arrest by fleeing.

Two juveniles, also of Cape Girardeau, were also taken into custody.

According to Sikeston DPS Captain James McMillen, on Aug. 16 at around 1:22 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Malcolm and Murray Lane in reference to gunshots.

He said a suspect vehicle description was called in and officers found the vehicle near Malcolm and William Street. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, McMillen said a chase began.

According to McMillen, one officer in his patrol car was nearly hit by the suspect vehicle. As officers followed the suspect vehicle, McMillen said they saw what looked like guns being thrown out of the windows. He said the weapons were later recovered by other officers not involved in the chase.

Two officers followed the suspect vehicle northeast from this area. McMillen said the suspect vehicle finally came to a stop near Main and Tanner Street.

When the suspect vehicle stopped, officers say the front passenger ran towards Lake and N. Main, but was taken into custody shortly after.

Officers positioned their vehicle against the driver's side doors so they were unable to run. Those suspects were taken into custody by the vehicle.

Two of the Cape Girardeau suspects were each 15 years old.

The driver was identified as Ralph Holmes.

According to McMillen, the shooting was believed to have been directed at a home in the 500 block of Malcolm Street. He said there was a birthday party there and a disturbance broke out.

McMillen said the fist fight eventually broke up and some shots rang out as several people were leaving the home.

After the chase, officers returned to the area where items were allegedly thrown out of the car.

McMillen said officers found three handguns along the road where officers said they saw the items being thrown.

Additionally, he said a homeowner on Dempster Street reported his house was hit by gunfire during the shooting at the party.

Officers say not only did they find weapons, but they also recovered weapon lights and laser weapon sights.

Holmes was taken to the Scott County Jail. His bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety. The two juveniles were later transported to the Mississippi County Detention Center for holding.
