Carbondale man sentenced to prison for cocaine

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A Carbondale man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to having cocaine.

Jeremy C. Clark, 32, was sentenced to one year in the Department of Corrections followed by one year of mandatory supervised release for unlawful possession of a controlled substance after pleading guilty in a Jackson County Circuit Court on August 19.

On March 21, 2014, the Clark was a passenger in a vehicle which was stopped for a routine traffic violation.

An Illinois State trooper noticed that Clark was not wearing his seatbelt. Clark began to walk away from the vehicle. After being told to stop by the officer, he began to run from the scene, according to Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr.

A Carbondale police officer began chasing him and saw Clark throw down a baggie.

After Clark’s arrest, the officer retrieved the baggie which contained cocaine.
