GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Gateway students decorated a two-tiered cake and learned how to plan family celebrations during a recent session of "Fun"tional Fridays.

The lessons are designed to help students learn how to survive in the “real world,” according to Principal Donna Crouch.

Every Friday during the school year students are offered a variety of training sessions on practical career and living skills in collaboration with community agencies and businesses. These days are called “Fun”tional Fridays.

Among the topics are CPR and first aid training, foods and nutrition, basic sewing, financial management, money matters, basic car care, basic pet care, smoking cessation, cake baking and decorating, cleaning and household maintenance, basic lawn care, child care and parenting, employment planning and interviewing skills, and sign language.

Gateway is a performance-based, alternative route to the high school diploma that the Graves County School District sponsors in Mayfield.

It welcomes students from late teens upward at no or low cost. To learn more, phone Crouch at 270-674-4974 or 270-328-4974.
