Carbondale man convicted of sexual assault

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Jackson County State’s Attorney announced Friday that a Carbondale man was sentenced to prison on two counts of criminal sexual assault.

On Tuesday, Matthew D. Mix, 19, entered guilty pleas in Jackson County Circuit Court to two counts of criminal sexual assault and was sentenced to a total of nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

On May 28, 2015, Mix sexually assaulted two women residing at a facility that provides services to individuals with neurological issues.

Mix worked as a care-giver at the facility.

He was sentenced to serve five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for one count of criminal sexual assault and sentenced to serve four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the second count of criminal sexual assault.

The two sentences were ordered to be served consecutively.

Upon his release from prison, he will serve a two year period of mandatory supervised release.

Mix will also have to register as a sex offender.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department.

Assistant State’s Attorneys Casey Bloodworth and Rebecca Blomer were responsible for the prosecution of this case.
