Carbondale man sentenced in domestic battery case

A Carbondale man will spend the next six years in prison for his second domestic battery conviction.

Jackson County State's Attorney Michael Carr announced that sentence for Michael Oliver, 37, of Carbondale, today.

A jury convicted Oliver July 29 on a felony domestic battery count.

Evidence in that trial showed Oliver's victim had severe swelling and bruising to her face, chest and arms.

The victim testified Oliver slapped her, punched her and beat her with a belt.

The felony count Oliver faced was enhanced because, Carr says, he had a prior domestic battery conviction.

Oliver's sentence will be followed by four years of mandatory supervised release.
