Spend Labor Day at Fort D

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Relive the days of the Civil War in Cape Girardeau on Labor Day.

From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on September 7, watch local Civil War re-enactors at Historic Fort D demonstrating rifle and cannon fire.

Fort D was once used to monitor Confederate troops moving up or down the Mississippi River.

During the Civil War, Cape Girardeau had four such forts but only Fort D remains today. The reenactment pays homage to the soldiers who resided here in the 1860s.

You'll find Fort D off Sprigg Street, four blocks south of Highway 74.
