Firefighters battled 2 fires in Portageville

PORTAGEVILLE, MO (KFVS) -

The Portageville Fire Department battled two fires on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

According to Sgt. Austin Deslisle with the Portageville Police Department, a mobile home on Haynes Road was destroyed by fire.

He said no one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The fire was called in at 2:56 p.m., according to police.

A house fire on Hwy. 61 south, about .5 mile south of Portageville, was reported at 3:14 p.m.

According to Sgt. Deslisle, the fire was still burning as of 8 p.m. on Tuesday. He said it was a big, two-story house and no one was home at the time.

Crews from Wardell and Gideon were called in to help fight this fire.

Sgt. Deslisle said it has been ruled a complete loss.

The state fire marshal is investigating both fires. As of Tuesday evening, neither were considered suspicious.

According to Sgt. Deslisle, there was a power surge in town around the time of the fires, but at this time they are not linking that to the fire.
