Dexter police cracking down on impaired driving

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) -

Residents in Dexter might notice a heavier police presence until nearly the end of September.

The police department reports it received extra funds from a grant funded by the Missouri Department of Transportation to allow them to be out in full force.

The additional officers will work to get impaired drivers off the roads.

The heavier police presence will remain in effect until the end of the Stoddard County Fair on Sept. 26.

The Dexter Police Department said its top priority to make safer travels for everyone on the roads.

The department has arrested 24 people between January 1, 2015 and August 12, 2015 for driving while impaired. That is a decrease from 39 during the same time period in 2014.

The police department reports this decrease is the result of the heavier patrol presence, funded by MoDOT.

The Dexter Police Department asks anyone spots an impaired driver to call the Dexter Police Department at 573-624-5512.
