Carterville church hosting BBQ fundraiser for veterans

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

The First United Methodist Church of Carterville is hosting a BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, August 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. to benefit "This Able Veteran."

"This Able Veteran" is a non-profit organization based in Carbondale, Illinois that provides a resiliency program and PTSD service dogs to veterans and at no cost.

According to "This Able Veteran," 22 veterans take their own lives every day. The program is working to change that.

For a suggested donation of $8 and all proceeds benefiting "This Able Veteran," folks will get a smoked pork sandwich, beans, corn chips, a dessert and drink.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, First Christian Church, First Baptist Church, and the Christian Covenant Church, All of Carterville and Crainville Baptist Church.
