Sikeston 7-year-old dropped off at wrong bus stop

A Sikeston mom wants answers after she claims her 7-year-old daughter was dropped off at the wrong bus stop.

Amanda Burgos had planned to pick her daughter up from the bus stop after her first day of school. When her second grader didn't get off, she says that's when panic set in.

The first day of school is always the most exciting day for students.

For Alex Burgos, it was no different, that was until she jumped on the bus to go home.

Burgos says school officials told her Alex was still on the bus, so she continued to wait.

After 10 more minutes she says she drove straight to Lee Hunter Elementary.

"Nobody could really give me any answers, they radioed into the bus and the bus driver said that she was dropped off, so he didn't have her on the bus,” she said.

Burgos says she drove all over her neighborhood looking her daughter.

And after 45 minutes..."I guess a mailman or lady, I'm not sure I still haven't found out who it was that stopped. She was crying on the side of the road. He or she tried to calm her down and find out what was going on from there and then they called the police as well,” said Burgos.

As it turns out, Alex was let off the bus four blocks from where she was supposed to be and wasn't sure which was home.

"I don't even want to imagine what could have happened and I am thankful to that person to stop and take their time and talk to my kid and find out what was going on,” she said.

The School's Superintended Tom Williams said Alex got on the wrong bus and that the problem has been taken care of.

He notes that parents should talk with their kids about their own bus routes and what to do if this happens to them.
