Officials say they have found the body of a man who went missing last week while kayaking on the Current River.

Sources with the Missouri State Highway Patrol say the body of Russ O'Neal, 50, was found in the river approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday.

His body was found near where the kayak was located.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, The Missouri State Highway Patrol, emergency management, dive teams, search dogs teams, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and volunteers searched for the local man.

Ripley County Sheriff Ron Barnett says O'Neal was reported missing late on Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Barnett says the man apparently had a medical issue with his leg and wore a brace. He says emergency crews found his kayak upside-down in the river along with some of his belongings.
