69th annual Puxico homecoming underway this week

PUXICO, MO (KFVS) -

The 69th annual Puxico homecoming is going on Aug. 11 through 15.

The event features carnival rides, give-a-ways, square-dancing, and goat burgers. Organizers say they serve up about 400 pounds of goat meat ever night. It's a poplar food to homecoming attendees.

"You eat a goat burger and you won’t have a cold all winter," Eddy Sifford said.

"You’d be surprised," Bill Hemby said. "I’ve watched people buy 20 at a time."

Square dancing is also a highlight of the homecoming. One long time square dancers and homecoming attendee encourages everyone to come give square dancing at try.

"They could learn if they wanted to and if they’ve got a good rhythm for keeping beat with the music, it’s a wonderful sport and activity to be involved with. There might be 60 people out there and you swing everybody out there," Pruitt Gregory said.

The local VFW is the main sponsor, but the entire community pitches in to help make the event a success.

Rides start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. There is a parade and tractor show Saturday afternoon.
