Let's get in the Breakfast Show time machine and travel back to 1988.

Here are some of the year's headlines. 

"The Last Emperor" won 9 Oscars including Best Picture.

George H. W. Bush defeats Michael Dukakis, becoming the first sitting Vice President of the United States in 152 years to be elected as President.

And these were the songs playing on the radio and on c-d players on the second week of August.

Billboard's Hot 100 had Gloria Estefan at number 5 with her hit "1-2-3."

Signing in at number 4 was Terence Trent D'Arby with "Sign Your Name."

Eric Carmen who celebrated a birthday this past Wednesday was in the number 3 spot with "Make Me Lose Control."

In the runner up spot was "Hands to Heaven" by the group Breathe.

And topping the charts was Steve Winwood with "Roll With It." The song would spend 4 weeks in the number one position in the summer of 1988.
