RLC to host handgun classes

If you are interested in obtaining a concealed carry license in Illinois, Rend Lake College has several classes available for you.

The college will offer basic handgun training on Saturday, August 15 and Saturday, September 12. The class will run from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The basic handgun training class will give an overview of the laws pertaining to civilian use of force along with an overview of the types of handguns and ammunition. This class will also include a hands-on portion in which students will learn the proper stance and grip when using a gun, how to load and unload the weapon, how to clear a malfunction, how to properly fire a gun, and the rules of the range. Detective Captain Jeff Bullard of the Mount Vernon Police Department will lead the class.

Once you know the basics, you can sign up for the Advanced Handgun Training course on Saturday, October 3. It will run from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The classroom portion of this course will take a closer look at the laws of civilian use of force. Students will also learn about weak-hand shooting, one-hand shooting, one hand reloading, shooting on the move, and range rules. Once students head to the range, captain Bullard will help participants test their marksmanship using the skills learned in the classroom.

Then, on Saturday, October 10, Bullard will lead a class on low light engagement handgun training. It will run from 2:00 until 10:00 p.m. Participants will learn to use illumination tools, the principles of lighting, mindset for a low light engagement, flashlight weapon techniques, and the rules of the range.
