A man wanted for allegedly shooting his grandfather at a home just outside of Kennett, Mo. is in custody.

Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said Thackary Moore, 20, was caught a little before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Moore was charged with first degree assault - serious physical injury, armed criminal action and first degree burglary.

He said Moore was driving with other people in the car on CR 718 in the south end of Dunklin County. According to Holder, deputies got a tip that Moore may be in Arkansas and would be returning to Missouri, so deputies set up at the Missouri/Arkansas line near Blytheville.

When deputies spotted his car, they went after it, and that sparked a lengthy chase into Pemiscot County and eventually back into Dunklin County.

It ended when Moore turned off of County Road 718 and onto a field road where he eventually slid into a ditch.

Two people in Moore's car at the time of the chase were taken into custody and may face charges.

Sheriff Holder said they recovered the gun, a 9mm pistol, they believe Moore used to shoot his grandfather along with a sawed off shotgun.

According to the sheriff's office, at around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Christine Marie Tingle and Richard Lynn Samples were at their home in the 500 block of Sagebrush in Kennett, Mo. when they said they heard their door being kicked in. They said someone came into their bedroom with a gun and wearing a mask.

The couple identified the intruder as their grandson, Thackary Brian Moore. They say he told them he wanted their money.

According to deputies, Tingle kept her purse on the floor by the side of the bed. She reached down and tried to get it. They say she got out of bed, covered her purse and then pushed it under the bed.

By this time, deputies say Moore removed his mask and a fight between the three started.

During the fight, the gun fired, hitting Samples in the leg.

Moore was able to get Tingle's wallet with money it and ran from the home.

Samples was taken to a hospital by ambulance and later transferred to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

Moore is in the Dunklin County Justice Center awaiting formal charges.
