CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office is the latest law enforcement agency putting the national motto, "In God We Trust," on the back of their patrol cars.

The Missouri Sheriff's Association voted to approve the placement on units at their recent conference in Branson, Missouri.

Cape Girardeau Co. officials join other departments in Missouri, such as Madison and Stone Counties, as well as Jefferson County, Illinois, by putting the decals on.

But not everyone is excited to see the new additions around town.

"In God We Trust, I don't like it,” said one Cape Girardeau County resident.

"They should take it down,” said another.

Hundreds of you defended the motto and spoke up on Facebook.

One Cape Girardeau County resident said he wishes all departments, including fire and EMTs, would put the motto on their vehicles.

Others said they're proud of the bumper stickers.

Officials say the decals were donated by a vendor at the Missouri Sheriff's Conference, at no cost to the taxpayers.

Sheriff John Jordan released this statement about the decals:

"In God We Trust is our national motto and has repeatedly been upheld as constitutional by both liberal and conservative supreme courts since its adoption in 1956.  Missouri's Sheriffs have United to display it proudly.  The vast majority of folks love this patriotic display but for those that don't I have a suggestion.  Take all of your United States coinage and currency and trade them in for rubles or yens along with your address and you will see why "In God We Trust," goes to the core fiber of this nation."
